Feeling at Home with Ace Hotel London Shoreditch

Ace Hotel London Shoreditch isn’t just for tourists; it’s for locals too. With an open invitation for everyone to hang out in the hotel regardless of being overnight guests or not, Ace Hotel London Shoreditch has a warm and welcoming environment that creates a true community feel– something I’ve never experienced in any hotel before this.

That’s probably why until Ace Hotel London Shoreditch, I’ve been quite biased towards Airbnbs. Airbnbs make me feel like I’m getting a glimpse into the local lifestyle while hotels make me feel disconnected from how people really live.

Well, Ace Hotel London Shoreditch has changed my mind about hotels because it’s not just a hotel. It’s a concept, and with every step I took into its juice bar, flower shop, and of course, the hotel room itself, I discovered that it is possible to stay at a hotel, get a taste of the community, and even feel at home!

a Personable Community Feel

As soon as I walked into the hotel, I was greeted with style and swag from the records on the wall to the clothes on the hotel goers themselves. Despite the trendy look, the feel of the hotel remains relaxed and casual like I was hanging out at a friend’s house.

Even the personnel from the receptionist to the random who-knows-what-his-job-is guy in the elevator talked to me like we knew each other for awhile, or at the very least, like we just had a drink together at the bar.

On the way up to my room, I noticed a ton of people hanging out everywhere— in the communal area, at the bar, and in the café.

At first, it seemed like an Apple convention going on with everyone typing away at their MacBooks but I realized I was catching a glimpse into the daily work life of the local community– win! Getting a taste of what locals do in their everyday life is something I so cherish when traveling, and damn, to be at this Ace Hotel chilling out and working daily, MUST BE NICE!

If I lived in Shoreditch and was a freelancer, I’d definitely come here– spacious setting, chill vibe, and of course, free wi-fi. Work is stressful as is; might as well lighten it up with comfortable couches, cool decor, and like-minded individuals.

Cool Events

While I headed up to my room, I spotted this calendar in the elevator and started to freak out over all the cool happenings going on at the hotel– DJs in their lobby, concerts in their club, and even science workshops for kids?

Yes, it’s true– this hotel just became the coolest hotel in the world.
But of course, it doesn’t stop there.

Spacious and Comfortable Rooms

Ace Hotel London Shoreditch’s standard hotel room is spacious and comfortable and decorated like I would decorate my own home (almost). No framed photos of swans or the countryside from the 1980s hanging above my bed or a plain jane dresser to put my clothes in. It’s all industrial, clean, and modern.

It made me feel so much at home that I decided to cozy up next to the window and stare off into the fantastic diffuser the hotel thoughtfully installed to create the perfect glow for great photography.

But seriously, does this hotel know what it’s doing or what? You can rent these rooms out for photo shoots, and once I saw that diffuser and the decor, I totally understood why and how.

Of course, my love for the room continued onto the bathroom. So you know, I didn’t take a photo of the bathroom for my blog. I first and foremost took it for some bathroom inspiration! My husband and I will be renovating our bathroom soon and I want it to look just like this!

Even all the products you can buy in the bathroom and around the room are very reasonably priced like a bottle of Jameson for example is about 30-40GBPs. From what I remember, it’s only about 5GBPs more than what I would pay for in stores, and I would know, Jameson is my fave!
All in all, the hotel room was very comfortable. I really loved having the huge round table and couch to relax on so that so much of my hotel life didn’t have to center around the bed, which happens often in most hotels.

More Than Just a Hotel

Like I said before, Ace Hotel London Shoreditch isn’t just a hotel. It’s a concept with everything and anything I like to have in my daily home life– juice bar, plant shop, club, bar, restaurant, café that serves STUMPTOWN coffee*, bike rentals, and even a record store.

*NOTE: I don’t usually drink coffee but I will drink Stumptown. SO GOOD. #notanad

My husband is an audiophile and likes the largest range of music so to see him freaking out in their record shop meant that they have a solid selection of records in every genre.

Ace Hotel London Shoreditch has completely changed my mind about hotels. As long as they’re like this, you’ll find me in hotels again and again.

P.S. This hotel is in Shoreditch, which is a really fun, hipster-esque neighborhood to check out. If you stay here, check out Dinerama and the other 1982283487234 street food courts in the area.

I received a complimentary stay in exchange for a hotel review, but of course, all opinions are my own because being honest is nice!

Wow! This place is awesome! Totally agree that so many hotel rooms seem to just centre around the bed so you end up in bed whenever you are in the room. The couch area looks so chill, and all those awesome places downstairs.... wow! It looks like a cool coworking type of space that I'm sure would inspire you to get a lot of work done. I really like this part of London so we will definitely be checking this place out next time we are there!

I can see that the Ace Hotel is not your typical hotel. It is virtually like a self contained township. Great to see it being a kind of community centre for the locals. It would be great to be able to work in the comfy confines and use the free WIFI. Work could not be more attractive than that.

It's hard to find a place that has a "local feel" to it, especially being surrounded by tourists everywhere. I actually do prefer these hotels and I've stayed at many (I've actually never used Airbnb before - can you believe it?) The one element that sets a hotel apart is its inviting atmosphere and this place definitely has that vibe. I don't know when I'll make it to London, but I'll definitely check it out when I do :) Cheers!

This is awesome! I wish more hotels were like this for sure. I'm going to try and find places like this in Bangkok or wherever else I go.

It's definitely got a cool vibe and I love that anyone can go in. Too often hotels are stickend by "policies" and what nonsense and it really turns me off.

Absolutely great Sarah. Thanks for sharing.
