If you’re looking for a hotel in Liguria, Italy, opt for this townhouse in Pigna to get a truly local feel.
Back in my accounting days, I got burnout. With the burnout came fibromyalgia, and with fibromyalgia came my quarter-life crisis. I quit accounting, followed my heart and became a travel blogger! I never once thought I could experience burnout from something I love so much, but I did.
In March, I traveled to Dublin, Berlin, Barcelona, and Cannes for my blog, and because of my health, I got completely exhausted. After those four trips, all I wanted to do was sleep, stretch and eat dumplings, but the work wasn’t over yet.
In the last week of March, I was invited by Rachel, the owner of Liguria Holiday Homes, to experience her luxury medieval townhouse/hotel in Pigna, Italy. Half-asleep, I packed my bags and headed back to the same airport that I had flown out of a few days before feeling quite spoiled with my I want my own bed attitude
Little did I know that this medieval townhouse in Pigna would flip my wanderlust right side up! From the first stop at the Ventimiglia Market shopping for fresh pasta and vegetables to the last sight of this picturesque off the beaten path village, I was in awe, already dreaming of the day I would return.
Read on to see why Liguria Holiday Homes is the perfect luxury hotel in Pigna, Italy for an off the beaten path adventure.
Modern Amenities in a Medieval Town
Rachel’s luxury 500-year old townhouse looks like a medieval home with its exposed stone walls and curved ceilings, but in no way is it medieval at all.
The whole townhouse was recently refurbished into a hotel in Pigna, Italy. It has everything you need to be comfortable during your stay. The kitchen is fully stocked with brand new Siemens appliances, the bedrooms have memory foam mattresses and goose down quilts, and the bathroom has a whirlpool LED lit bathtub and high-end Molton Brown products.
As someone who loves to cook, relax in baths and take naps, this was the perfect place to unwind and get over my travel burnout.
Cooking local ingredients I bought at the Ventimiglia Market in a proper kitchen made me feel more like I was at home then on vacation while soaking in the tub eased the physical tension from all the travel I did that month. I would’ve been happy with just these amenities, but of course, it doesn’t stop there.
There are thoughtful surprises throughout the house such as the handful of board games and large selection of DVDs in the living room, umbrellas to borrow on a rainy day, and plastic cutlery to take out on a picnic. Rachel even left us local wine, pasta and pesto to try, which went perfectly with the food we brought ourselves.
Picturesque Surroundings With Every Step You Take
What makes this townhome in Pigna better than a regular old hotel in Liguria, Italy is because Pigna is so off the beaten path. It is one of the lesser traveled to villages of the Liguria region, which has the infamous Cinque Terre.
Unlike Cinque Terre, Pigna is devoid of tourists. You can explore the winding cobblestone streets and hiking trails and bump into a friendly local or two, but you’ll never find yourself someplace with more tourists than residents.
Rachel’s medieval townhouse is right in these cobblestone alleyways. Every time I stepped out of the townhouse, I was transported back to a time when the world wasn’t trying to get every second of my attention through the internet. All there was to do was get lost in the unspoiled beauty of this village and feel as if time had stopped.
Up above the cobblestone alleys and streets are hiking trails wrapping around the mountain. You’ll find a rustic, broken down medieval building, which you can get a romantic bird’s eye of Pigna and a glimpse of the next village over. Once you get tired of the view, which is never, there’s so much to do in the area such as visiting thermal springs, discovering natural rock pools, mountain biking and checking out nearby cities like Ventimiglia, Menton and Nice.
Don’t even worry researching what to do in Pigna because when you book stay with Liguria Holiday Homes, Rachel will give you a jam-packed guide with what you should specifically explore in villages nearby, where to eat and even what events and festivals are in the area during the year.
This gorgeous medieval hotel in Pigna, Italy ranges from £120-160 a night depending on the time of year and is totally worth every penny. Book it here!
Thanks for stopping by! xo.

Wow, no kidding about the picturesque trappings! For something so aging, I was shocked to see modern furnishings! And I can completely sympathize with you about your burnout. I have a similar story that left me with an autoimmune thyroid condition and I am feeling the wear of constant travel myself. Most people tell me its something I shouldn't complain about but it's so hard living with an invisible illness :( *sending hugs*

I love the medieval charm with modern amenities. You get the best of both worlds! I also love when hosts go above and beyond and even the seemingly simple things like a bottle of wine, cutlery and umbrellas add a convenience factor and go a long way.
