Wow– Los Angeles captured my heart like no other. I had been two times before and certainly did not expect falling in love with it on this visit, but yes, I fell head over heels in love with Los Angeles. It inspired me, revived me, and I wanted nothing more than to move there ASAP. Of course, I had to return home to Amsterdam after a week and a half there, but can’t help thinking of my Los Angeles so fondly, especially with my stay at the Sheraton Grand Los Angeles to start off my trip.
It took me about 19 hours door-to-door to get to LA with a connecting flight totaling 10 hours so staying at this hotel in downtown Los Angeles was refreshing and exactly what I needed after traveling so much.
Thank you Sheraton Grand Los Angeles for my night there and getting my Los Angeles trip off to a great start with your excellent customer service, and most importantly, comfortable bed!

Getting to Sheraton Grand Downtown Los Angeles
Getting to Sheraton Grand Downtown Los Angeles was quite easy, which I was super happy about after being on a plane for 10 hours.
I took the LAX FlyAway® Bus to Union Station then took the subway from Union Station to 7th Street/Metro Center a couple of stops. The hotel was only a two minute walk away from the subway stop!
Altogether, this cost $12.50: $9.75 for the bus, $1.75 for the subway, and $1.00 fee for a new subway card.
Of course, taking an Uber is always an easy choice and still economical if you have multiple people riding in one Uber. The cost should be around $25 to $60 depending on if you take UberPool or UberX and if there’s traffic or not.

Entering the Hotel

As soon as I entered the hotel, I was taken away by the floor-to-ceiling art deco interior design. This was closely followed by the smiling customer service I got from the hotel concierge. Check-in was fast and effortless, which was a huge relief after having checked two flights and traveling to and from the airports.
Getting Settled in my Room

There were many thing to love about my room, but here are the things that stood out to me the most.
- The bed was quite comfortable. It supported my fibromyalgia-ridden back quite firmly, but still had a plush layer that made it oh so soft. Also, the pillows were also plush and full. Ever stayed at a hotel where the pillows looked and felt plush, but once you laid your head on it, they depleted down to nothing? Nope, you won’t get that here– comfy sleep all the way.
- There were little details around the room that I would personally have at home such as the small shelf off the mirror at the entrance that I could drop my keys and personal items off as soon as I entered the room. From this to USB cables in the wall, these little details made a huge difference.
- The bathroom mirror had a cool art deco design as did the rest of the hotel room, but the lighting is what made me really love it. It made putting on my makeup easy with all the bright lights all around.
Exploring a Central Location
The hotel is in a fantastic location for foodies. There were so many restaurants to eat at within walking distance, and even better, so many places to explore such as Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirror Rooms.
See the location in this map, and make sure to stop by Sprinkles Cupcake and get a red velvet cupcake. I was never into the red velvet flavor until I had it at Sprinkles, and it’s my favorite there!
Feeling Good with A Sustainable Stay

This didn’t make or break my stay at this hotel, but knowing that the Sheraton Grand Los Angeles even has some type of sustainability program in practice was an added bonus. Traveling is actually not a sustainable activity as planes are not ideal for the planet with its large carbon dioxide emissions. Not flying isn’t exactly a choice for me, but staying at hotels that looks to save waste instead of adding to it is an option to be more mindful with the planet.
Getting Fit with a View
In addition to doing good for the environment, you can really do good for your body with the hotel’s fitness room. It’s one of the better gyms I’ve been at the hotel and quite large so you won’t be bumping into other hotel guests. They have everything you need from weights to cardio machines, and with a stunning view of Los Angeles, you can enjoy getting fit with a whole new perspective on LA.
Enjoying a Complimentary Breakfast in the Sheraton Club

If you’re part of the Sheraton Club, then you’ll love the complimentary breakfast included in your hotel package because not only does the hotel have good food for hotel standards, but breakfast comes with a view!
